The Library

Jamil, after a stay of several years abroad, returns to the country, defeated and broken. He is hired as a clerk in the bookstore of young Tarek Ben Othman. Jamil is attracted to the widow Aïcha, fifteen years his senior and mother of Tarek. She, disturbed by her feelings towards Jamil, leaves the apartment, located above the bookstore. Leila, Tarek's young and rebellious wife, tired of the monotony of her life in the bookstore and in the apartment, leaves her husband for a brilliant career as a singer. Tarek sinks into depression. Aïcha is then forced to return to her son. Jamil and Aïcha meet again. Their relationship then takes a new turn...
