Biography

Anis LASSOUED is a Tunisian filmmaker. He graduated as a director from the Maghreb Institute of Cinema – Tunis. He furthered his film studies at the University of Tor Vergata-Rome and completed internships at Fémis-Paris and GSARA-Liège. He has directed several documentary films for TV channels (NHK, TV5, Al Jazeera Documentaire, and Children…) and has been a co-producer for some of them: "Les Poupées de sucre," "Un été à Sidi Bouzekri," "Fille-Garçon" (Yemen), "Demain… Boutheina" (Algeria), "L’Opposant" (Visions du Réel-Nyon 2014)… In 2006, he directed his first fiction film "Saba Flous" (Magical Harvest) (Official Selection at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen; Cannes Film Festival-Tous Les Cinémas du Monde; Muhr Award at DIFF-UAE 2006; Gold Cairo at the Cairo International Film Festival for Children 2007). In 2012, he directed "Sabbat El Aïd" (The Eid Shoes), which won multiple awards at international film festivals (Golden Stallion & Best African Film at FESPACO 2013; TIFF Kids International Film Festival; Taiwan International Children's Film Festival, etc.). In 2013, he co-founded Lumières Films with Chema Ben Chaabene, an independent production company aimed at assisting filmmakers in developing and producing projects with a creative vision. He returned to documentary filmmaking and directed "Je suis ma République" (2021) and "Notre semence" (2022). "Une seconde vie" (Release: 2022) is his first feature-length fiction film (Lumières Films-CTV Productions-SVP). It is currently in distribution (Golden Slippers for Best Feature Film at the 62nd Zlin International Film Festival for Children and Youth. Best Screenplay Award and Prize from the Hellenic Parliament-25th Olympia Film Festival for Children and Youth…). He is finishing post-production on a short fiction film "Loading," signing a new documentary "Looking for my mother" (2024), and beginning development on a new feature-length fiction project "Le Chemin de Jamila" (Jamila's Path) (Lumières Films 2024). He has been appointed Director of the International Children and Youth Festival of Sousse - FIFEJ Tunisia (14th edition-2024).
